EIFF Stories: Young Programmers

EIFF Stories: Young Programmers

This year at the Film Festival… I have been programming some of the Young and the Wild badged movies…. and also hosting events at Youth Hub. I would say the Young Programmers, and Youth Hub, are extremely important. Because I know a lot of my friends… who are wanting to get in to the industry… who don’t 100% know where to go… and it’s handy to have somewhere like the Youth Hub… where they can go and network with other young people… as well as meet older filmmakers and network with them. You can go and share your opinions and ideas… it’s just really valuable and you learn so much from it. And if you want a career in the film industry, the networking they set up is so good as well. And obviously it’s bringing in the opinion from the next generation… of people who will choose the movies that are going to be in cinemas… and at film festivals. I would say it’s good that you’re only allowed 2 years… as if you continue longer they’ll just be clogged up with the same people… and there won’t be a new perspective. It does mean that that there’s always fresh opinions and ideas coming in to the group. Everyone that does it loves film, we all love film. So it’s just kinda brings us together, it’s nice. I think I’ll look back on being a Young Programmer… and being involved in Youth Hub as a really valuable experience… because I know that I do want to get involved in film… and this has just been the best start… because there’s been so much networking, meeting people from the industry… and seeing new things that I don’t think I would have seen without this. It’s been really, really valuable.
