Pneumatic Cylinder Smart Sensor Limit Switch


♪ Control ♪ Hello. We’re demonstrating
a Smart Sensor as an overtravel protection limit switch. This shows the sensor’s
wide range and tight precision… and this is what happens without the sensor! We programmed the sensor with
this self-contained programmer. We found experimentally that we
needed 0.5 millitesla to trigger just short of the egg. The 0.3 millitesla hysteresis
sets the cylinder travel. Here’s a diagram: The cylinder is controlled by a common five-way pneumatic solenoid valve. We built a simple sensor interface board with a solenoid driver
and a 3.3-volt regulator. The cylinder reverses
as the sensor turns on and off. Here are the main elements in this
demo and where to get them: So we’ve seen some of the features that make the SM124 sensor
hard to “beat”: It has a flexible comparator output with a conventional mode; latching mode; inverted mode; and window comparator mode. The sensor is omnipolar,
so you don’t have to worry
about magnet polarity; it’s sensitive, for air gaps
at least the width of an egg; it’s programmable; and it’s ultraminiature. Click, e-mail, or call
